On 9 September 2014 the foundation stone was laid for the new Agora building, which will house the new PowerLabDK experimental facilities from September 2015. DTU Electrical Engineering and Center for Electric Power and Energy held a ceremony in the square between buildings 326, 328 and 329, where the new building 329A will be founded
In addition to PowerLabDK’s excisting facilities at DTU and Bornholm, the new facilities will comprise a number of electric labs. They will be ranging from flexible laboratories to small and large-scale experimental facilities for scientific work, technology development, test and demonstration within the area of electrical engineering, e.g. appliances, intelligent meters, electric vehicles and communication systems to mention just a few. The new laboratories will also support education and research activities within electrical engineering, and the facilities will be available and open for the industry, e.g. as a part of research and development projects conducted by the customer or in collaboration with technical experts from DTU and Østkraft.
At the ceremony Preben Jørgensen, Head of Energy Projects in HOFOR and Chairman of the PowerLabDK Steering Committee spoke about the industry's need for an experimental development environment and collaboration platform with DTU's researchers and students.
