Lecture by Professor Yuanzhang Sun

"Operation and Control of Industrial Power System with High Wind Power Penetration"

Come and join us as Visiting Professor Yuanzhang Sun gives an inspiring public lecture.

Time and Date: 10:00 – 11:30, May 31st, 2017
Place: Room 009, Building 325, Kgs. Lyngby, DK 2800

Abstract:
High penetration of wind power in power systems introduces significant challenges to the operation and control of power systems. The fluctuations of wind power require more fast balancing power in order to maintain secure and reliable operation. Traditionally, the balancing is handled by thermal and hydro power plants. In the future renewables based power systems, other resources, such as energy storage and load control, should be utilized in order to realize cost effective and efficient solutions.
In the talk, the results of a large demonstration project on load control to balance isolated industrial power systems will be presented. The key idea of the project is to control large scale industry load to balance power systems with high wind power penetration. The total budget of the demonstration project is 10 billion CNY and the demonstration was conducted in the eastern Inner Mongolia power system.

The following items will be presented.
- Wind power development status and challenges in China
- Concept and design of voltage-frequency coordinated control of large scale industry load
- Hardware-in-the-loop test and field implementation of the developed controller
