Foundation stone laying ceremony for the AGORA building

Wednesday 10 Sep 14

The AGORA construction has now officially been kicked off with the ceremonial foundation stone laying. At the event there were speeches, posters with visualizations of the project were shown, and of course the foundation stone laying along with a time capsule.

Tuesday, 9 September 2014, the foundation stone was laid where the AGORA construction 329A will be built at DTU Lyngby Campus. The new building will connect the buildings 326, 328 and 329, and include 1,850 m2 fitted with state-of-the-art research facilities in the energy and power systems field (PowerLabDK), offices, teaching areas and an auditorium. Simultaneously, building 325 is being renovated.

The ceremony and celebration was opened by Campus Director Jacob Steen Møller. There were speeches by DTU President Anders Bjarklev, Chairman of PowerLabDK’s Steering Committee Preben Jørgensen, DTU Dean Martin Vigild, and last but not least Head of DTU Electrical Engineering Kristian Stubkjær.

Kristian Stubkjær spoke about the project and how PowerLabDK triggered the possibility of the new AGORA building, the choice of the name AGORA, and extended a big thank you to all who have helped to make it all happen.

Time Capsule
At the end of the ceremony a time capsule with the theme "From Source two Consumption" was symbolically cast into the foundation of AGORA. It was a tribute to DTU Electrical Engineering's industrial collaboration partners. Read more about what the time capsule contained (PDF).

Short status on the construction
The preliminary work on the AGORA construction began in July 2014. In December 2014 it is expected that the closed carcass is to be completed, after which the interior finishing work could commence. The entire construction is expected to be completed in September 2015.
